Celebrate Manatee Protection & Awareness
Manatee Protection and Awareness, it’s now the time of year to celebrate once again! Why? Because Manatees are heading South again! Every year from late August to early September we celebrate when Manatees are migrating to their winterized homes and follow their migratory paths throughout the nation.
Why is it necessary to celebrate this wonderful time of year when the manatees follow their migration paths? This is a simple question but there are many answers to this simple question. For one, manatees are not only beautiful and unique creatures, they are also very sensitive to manmade disturbances in their habitat and environment. When manatees are threatened or have to swim through murky water, when too many predators are around, when the temperature drops below freezing, and when pollution and toxic chemicals in the soil pollute the water, manatees will withdraw from their migration and may die.
As we work to raise awareness of manatee conservation, we want to bring to Florida communities all of the benefits manatees have to offer as well as all the benefits of having them follow their natural migratory paths. So, join us as we help celebrate Manatees every year by keeping watch while boating and staying a safe distance away so you don’t disturb them but enjoy their presence while sharing their waters. Come be part of our efforts to save the manatee and its habitat.
